Packing perishable, dangerous or hazardous materials in your household goods without your mover’s knowledge is never a good idea. Seemingly innocent items such as nail polish remover, paint, automotive maintenance products, or household cleaners will limit company’s liability if something goes wrong, so be sure you know which items are on the hazardous materials list. And if you choose to pack your own boxes and the articles happened to get damaged, it is often more difficult to ensure a successful claim against the mover for those boxes.

You are never required (or expected) to put in any effort when you hire professional movers. If you do want to help, always be sure to check with the job Foreman on what could be added help. The best thing you can do is to offer some refreshments, keep your home safe, children occupied, and pets secured so everything can move seamlessly.

Although most people will try anything to save on moving expenses, the safety of yourself and your property should always come first. Aside from the stress of moving, it’s also important to keep in mind that moving expenses often stack up quick when factoring in the truck, gas, lodging, and supplies, often times costing more than the actual moving company. By hiring professionals to handle your nation-wide relocation, you will save yourself a lot of time and grief, allowing you and your family to simply sit back and relax knowing that experienced professionals are there to handle everything you need!

Remember that when hiring expert cross-country moving companies, you’re not getting an all-inclusive “move-out” package. Handling utilities, plumbing issues, electrical, or installation work are not services that moving companies provide. Keep in mind that these are tasks you’ll need to handle prior to moving day if this will be your last day in the home.

It’s also important to make sure that any electronics and wall hangings going to your new home are unplugged and removed from the walls to ensure minimal complications and avoid any confusion on items needing to be moved.

While most moving companies offer packing services and extra supplies, additional services come with an added cost so a good way to save yourself some extra money is to make sure you have everything packed and ready to go, including small/miscellaneous items.
